The University of Melbourne is offering a funded opportunity for professionals from select developing countries to attend the prestigious kNOwVAWdata course in Melbourne in 2025. This opportunity is part of the Australia Awards Fellowship program, supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). The University of Melbourne and UNFPA are inviting applicants from the Asia Pacific Region to apply.

There are two funding options available:
1) Full funding (15 positions, eligible countries – see below)
- Full tuition for the 4-week kNOwVAWdata course
- Return airfare to Melbourne
- Accommodation for the duration of the course
- Living allowance
- Health insurance
2) Partial funding (7 positions, eligible countries – see below)
- Fee exemption for the four-week course, valued at $2,800 US dollars.
- Participants must cover their own travel costs and living expenses.
To proceed with an application as either a full or partial Fellow you will need:
- A recent copy of your CV / resume
- A signed letter of support from your sending organization, using the template required by DFAT
- A response prepared for Part D of the application form, outlining your background and reasons for your interest in the course (Maximum 1,000 words)
To be eligible for a full or partial Australia Awards Fellow funding you must be a citizen of an eligible developing country, and be living and working in an eligible country in an area relevant to the Fellowship activities in 2025.
Eligible countries within Asia Pacific:
- Pacific: Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu and Wallis and Futuna.
- Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Viet Nam, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka
Fellow eligibility
To be selected as an Australian Awards Fellow you must:
- Be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time of commencing the Fellowship
- Not be a permanent resident or be applying for permanent residency in Australia or partner of someone who is
- Be a citizen or permanent resident of an eligible country (see list below)
- Be living and working in an eligible country on an area relevant to the Fellowship in 2025
- Not be current serving military personnel
- Be able to satisfy all requirements of the Department of Home Affairs for (DFAT sponsored) student visas subclass 500
- Be able to participate in the Fellowship
- Hold English language skill level: Competent, with an effective command of the English language. This means being able to use and understand fairly complex language, particularly in familiar situations, equivalent to IELTS 6.0.
- Be able to travel without family members as DFAT will only fund and provide visa support letters for individual Fellows, not their family members.
